School Districts Honored with ASBO Budget Awards

Ashburn, VA — September 11, 2018 — The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) is pleased to recognize more than 150 recipients of the association’s Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) and Pathway to the MBA programs for 2017–2018. ASBO International’s MBA and introductory Pathway to the MBA promote and recognize best practices in budget presentation.

Participants submit their budget applications for review by ASBO International’s panel of financial professionals. The materials are assessed by a team of finance professionals for compliance in accordance with the MBA Criteria Checklist and other program requirements. Districts that successfully demonstrate they have met the necessary requirements may earn either the MBA or Pathway to the MBA. First-time applicants may apply for the introductory Pathway to the MBA program to ease into the full MBA requirements. Reviewers provide expert feedback, offering districts a learning opportunity to further improve their budget presentations.

“Presenting an accurate, easy-to-understand budget to the community is critical to promoting transparency and establishing trust," says ASBO International Chief Operations Officer Siobhán McMahon, CAE. “The MBA and Pathway to the MBA set high levels of accountability between the district finance department and the community, and we commend these districts for their dedication.”

The MBA and Pathway to the MBA are sponsored by Voya Financial®, a top provider of retirement plans for the academic community and an ASBO International Strategic Partner. Voya Financial Senior Vice President Mark Jackowitz says, “We are honored to recognize this year’s MBA and Pathway to the MBA recipients and applaud them for their commitment to excellence.”
