School Business Officials Awarded for Innovation and Resourcefulness

Ashburn, VA – The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) is pleased to announce the recipients of ASBO International’s 2021 Pinnacle Awards, which recognize innovative school business professionals for their resourcefulness and creativity in solving the challenges that school districts face today. The awards, sponsored by Virco, Inc., showcase replicable projects and practices that allow district business leaders to exchange and implement new ideas to better support their schools and communities.

The ASBO International 2021 Pinnacle of Excellence Award recipient is Patty D. Camery, CPA, SFO, executive director of finance for Frederick County Public Schools in Winchester, Virginia, for a project aimed to help staff, parents, and community leaders better understand the budget process in a fun and engaging way.

The 2021 ASBO International Pinnacle of Achievement Award recipients are:

  • Jesus J. Amezcua, PhD, CPA, RTSBA, assistant superintendent for business services for Harris County Department of Education in Houston, Texas, for HCDE’s development of a regional school for students who have intellectual, developmental, and behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and other significant health impairments.
  • Mark DeBoer, CPA, CA, CSBO, SFO, director of finance for Lethbridge School Division in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, for a project to add further transparency to the division’s reporting using a live financial reporting dashboard, internal reporting dashboards, and performance measures dashboards.
  • Greg Hunt, EdS, assistant superintendent of business and operations for LaPorte Community School Corporation in LaPorte, Indiana, for a building project that utilized district-owned land and buildings, which prevented redistricting, maximized space, and made the best use of budget dollars.

“On behalf of ASBO International, I want to congratulate the 2021 Pinnacle Award winners,” ASBO International Executive Director David J. Lewis says. “School business professionals are continuously finding ways to innovate and create new initiatives while maximizing their resources, which are oftentimes limited. Each year we are thrilled to read about the creative projects and programs Pinnacle recipients are implementing in schools around the world, and we admire their commitment to their districts and communities.”

Brian True, vice president of sales for Virco, says “Virco has been a proud sponsor of the Pinnacle Awards for 28 years now and is honored to work alongside ASBO International to recognize school business professionals who seek creative solutions to address the challenges school districts face today. We are inspired by their ingenuity and congratulate this year’s honorees.”

All Pinnacle honorees will be recognized with crystal Pinnacle Awards. In addition, Pinnacle of Excellence Award recipient Patty Camery’s district will receive $5,000 in furniture from Virco, Inc.
