ASBO International Welcomes New Executive Director

Ashburn, VA – March 5, 2019 – The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) Board of Directors is delighted to announce the selection of David J. Lewis as the association’s new executive director. Lewis will join the headquarters team on April 10, 2019.

“David brings to the position an extensive background in association management and membership development, public relations, legislative affairs, and strategic communications,” ASBO International President Tom Wohlleber says. “His commitment to both education and the school business profession is clear, and the board and staff look forward to his leadership as we continue to meet the needs of our members and move the profession forward.”

For the past eight years, Lewis has served as the executive director for the Arizona Association of School Business Officials.

During his tenure with Arizona ASBO, he chaired the ASBO International Affiliate Executive Directors Group and served on the ASBO International Legislative Advisory Committee. He also worked extensively with both state and national government and education organizations to promote and protect public education in Arizona.

Prior to taking on the leadership of Arizona ASBO, Lewis was the president/CEO of two Chambers of Commerce in Arizona, focusing on the promotion and advancement of local businesses and community organizations. He also was the managing director for a Washington, D.C., lobbying firm representing a wide variety of organizations, including educational institutions, and was the producer of “Ask Congress,” a half-hour public affairs television show airing on PBS.

“I am honored and proud to join ASBO International as their Executive Director,” Lewis said. “ASBO International has been the leading school business official association in the U.S. and internationally for over a century, with great people and outstanding programs and services for our members. I look forward to continuing to build on this foundation of excellence as we seek to promote and protect public education in the United States and abroad.”
