Education Resources from Conference on School Safety Stress Need for Emergency Planning
Following the recent surge of violence in America’s schools, the White House conducted a Conference on School Safety on October 10th. The U.S. Dept. of Education has also archived a recent Webcast on school safety, and offers resources to help schools prevent and respond to a variety of crisis situations. ASBO International Endorses National Position Statement on Preventing School Violence
In the wake of recent school shootings in the U.S., ASBO has signed a national position statement on school violence. Developed by researchers and practitioners, the statement has been endorsed by a wide array of major professional groups. Click here for more on the national position statement on school violence.

Edward Emond and Charles Linderman Elected to ASBO International’s 2007 Board of Directors
 ASBO International welcomed two new members to its Board of Directors with a vote at the Annual Meeting’s First General Session October 14th. Edward Emond, RSBA, is a school business administrator in Laconia, New Hampshire. Charles E. Linderman, RSBA, is director of business affairs for the Great Valley School District in Malvern, Pennsylvania. Click here for more about ASBO’s new Board members for 2007.

As a keynote speaker at the 2006 Annual Meeting, futurist Gary Marx explained some of the movements that will have a profound impact on education and the whole of society in the 21st century. John Musso Takes Reins as ASBO International Executive Director
The ASBO International Board of Directors was pleased to announce in June 2006 that John D. Musso, RSBA, had accepted the position of Executive Director of the association. Mr. Musso began work at ASBO headquarters on July 11th.
Having most recently served as chief financial officer for the District of Columbia Public Schools, Musso has more than 30 years of experience in education, holding positions as a school teacher, principal, and deputy superintendent. He has also held leadership positions with Colorado ASBO and the ASBO Board of Directors. Click here to find out more and read John's bio.


United Kingdom Recognizes Graduates in School Business Management Certificate and Diploma Programs
The National College for School Leadership, Manchester Metropolitan University, and the Institute of Administrative Management in the United Kingdom recently conducted graduation ceremonies for 400 school business managers enrolled in Certificate and Diploma of School Business Management programs. The programs provide graduates with skills that enable them to contribute to the work of the schools at all levels — from managing resources productively to contributing to every child's education.

EPA's New HealthySEAT Software Helps Districts Assess School Environments, Manage All Their Facilities at Once
The EPA has developed new software to help school districts evaluate and manage ALL their facilities at once for key environmental, safety, and health issues. The Healthy School Environments Assessment Tool (HealthySEAT) is designed to be customized and used by district-level staff to conduct completely voluntary self-assessments of their facilities, and to track and manage information on environmental conditions school-by-school.

ASBO Resources for Controlling Health Care Costs
The results of ASBO’s Strategic Issue survey show that the rising cost of health care remains the biggest concern they face in their jobs. Click here for the Resource Center for Controlling Health Care Costs.
Staff health care and related services such as vision, dental, and prescription drug coverage cost respondents' districts an average of $895 per student, or 9.5 percent of total district expenditures, and are up 10% this year.
