Performance Contracting: Financing Better Schools Through Energy Cost Savings Available to Schools
A brochure produced by the U.S. Department of
Energy’s Rebuild America program and co-sponsored by
ASBO International shows how performance contract management can provide
added funds for K-12 school improvement projects.
The six-page brochure, Performance Contracting: Financing Better Schools Through Energy Cost Savings, includes sections on how performance contracting works, case studies, and recommended sources.
Under performance contracts, energy service companies (ESCOs) contract with school districts to pay for improvements from savings in energy innovations. If guaranteed savings don’t materialize for the customer to the extent projected, the ESCO pays the difference.
Depending on negotiations, performance contracts allow for either the customer or the contractor to keep any "excess" savings during the contract term. After the end of the contract term, the customer keeps all savings.
Visit NAESCO's Website for additional
information on performance contract management.
