ASBO International is pleased to offer the services of the Green Schools Advisory Group (AG) through a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  The AG provides ASBO member districts access to a comprehensive suite of technical and management consulting services to support sustainability initiatives at the school and district level.  These services include on-site assessments, consultation, training, and online webinars provided AT NO CHARGE to ASBO member districts.

Comprised of the nationally renowned team of John Gayetsky (Environmental Management Specialist) and Kathy Prosser (Environmental Program Facilitator), the AG has educated and advised hundreds of school district administrators, facilities specialists, teachers, and other stakeholders nationally. These efforts have centered on the implementation of proven strategies for cutting operational costs and driving revenue while improving academic performance, environmental quality, and health through sustainable design and operation. The AG employs a data-driven approach to facility optimization and sustainability that emphasizes the alignment of measurable performance metrics with district priorities, mission, and goals. This alignment is essential to achieving lasting change and a cultural transformation toward high performance schools.

This partnership between ASBO and the school community has achieved substantial cost savings, revenue growth, and healthier, higher performing learning environments to the benefit of thousands of school children and district stakeholders from across America.

Understand the Challenge

The impact of IEQ on health and performance

The concentration of pollutants inside classrooms and school facilities is typically two to five times greater than that found outdoors. Consequently, these indoor settings run a significantly greater risk of triggering asthma attacks and other adverse health effects. Asthma in young children has risen nearly 60% in the last 15 years, affecting nearly 1 in 13 school-aged children. Asthma is responsible for a staggering 14 million missed school days per year. Poor IEQ can also reduce our ability to perform various mental tasks requiring concentration, calculation, and memory.

Effective IEQ management can provide a healthy indoor environment conducive to learning, student and teacher health, higher attendance, and increased school funding through positive community support.
