Environmental Initiatives at the AM&E
Meeting Site and Vendor Selection
ASBO leadership purposefully selects meeting sites and
vendors with commitments to green and otherwise socially responsible
practices. The 2012 Annual Meeting & Expo (AM&E) will
be held at the Phoenix Convention Center, awarded LEED silver
certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. More tangible
green features at the convention center include chairs made from
recycled car batteries and seat belts, tablecloths made from old plastic
bottles, and meals made from locally farmed produce. There are also
rooftop solar panels and a water-harvesting garden that converts
condensation from the building’s heating and cooling system into
water for landscaping.
Minimizing Our Environmental Footprint
ASBO International is committed to hosting
“paper-lite” meetings, using paper only where absolutely
necessary. We’ve completely eliminated the use of disposable
cups, plates, and utensils, and provide all attendees with reusable
water bottles. In addition, we select badge holders and conference bags
made from recycled or sustainable materials. To increase recycling
and repurposing of exhibit hall materials, we ask exhibitors to sort
unwanted items into bins labeled “Trash,”
“Recycle,” and “Donate.”
Continuing Education
ASBO
International strives to offer a range of education sessions and
speakers who demonstrate the role sustainability plays in almost every
functional area of an organization. Look for ASBO's SR icon in the
AM&E program book to identify sessions that speak to issues of
social responsibility.
