INTERNATIONAL EAGLE AWARD RECIPIENT

As assistant superintendent for support services in one of the fastest-growing school systems in the nation, Jeffrey Platenberg understands the importance of meeting the needs of the district's students
and staff while keeping an eye on the bottom line.  He spearheaded construction of 13 new schools, 9 renovations, and 5 additions; brought the food service program from a $2 million loss into profitability;
and dramatically improved energy efficiency across the system.

Earl Burke's sound fiscal leadership has helped the district continue its high level of services in all district departments, including transportation, food services, janitorial services,and building and grounds. He was able to minimize teacher downsizing, keeping class size to the district's 24:1 ratio during tough economic times.  His implementation of a variety of programs has netted the district more than $300,000 in cost savings, which was immediately reinvested in new reading and math programs.

Under John Butler's leadership, the fast-growing district upheld funding for an aggressive capital projects program and consistently maintains strong bond ratings from Moody's and Standard and Poor's. He also is active on the state level, pursuing legislative change for public education, serving on legislative committees, and testifying at state hearings on behalf of school finance leaders.
